The Thistle, Onopordum acanthium (Cotton Thistle), is an iconic symbol of Scotland.

Legend has it, at the Battle of Largs in 1263, the humble thistle alerted Alexander III’s army to the invading Norsemen as they crept ashore under the cover of darkness. One barefoot viking stood on a thistle – ouch ! And his cry of pain alerted the Scots encampment.

This lilac and green biennial, is  also an ancient Celtic symbol of noble character and birth, and is associated with the Order of the Thistle.

To add a historic, vibrant splash of colour to your home – you don’t have to scour the Scottish hillsides. At Bay Attic we have a collection of artistically designed table mats, cushion covers and aprons by Scott Inness.
