Castle Art

A fortified dwelling, stronghold, Keep, Bulwark, home of nobility or royalty or simply a large dwelling or town house. Whether in ruin, occupancy or restored to become a visitor attraction, museum or venue – castles and their history have a medieval romance, even if their colourful history is not as hospitable as their modern-day appearance.

Cawdor Castle Gardens – Open Edition Lithograph Art Poster by Bob Lees. Cawdor Castle in Nairn, Inverness-shire, was built in the 14th Century and is the ancestral home of the Cawdor family.

Brodick Castle – Limited Edition Giclee Art Print by Tony Montague. Brodick Castle, Garden & Country Park on the Isle of Arran, is just one of the 129 castles conserved and maintained by the National Trust for Scotland.

Inveraray Castle – Open Edition Giclee Art Print by Peter McDermott. You will find Inverary Castle on the banks of Loch Fyne, on the West Coast of Scotland. Inveraray Castle is the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll and the seat of the Clan Campbell.

Reflection, Castle Stalker – Signed Limited Edition Giclee Art Print by David Graham. Castle Stalker is privately owned and was built around 1320, by Clan MacDougall on an island in Loch Laich, an inlet of Loch Linnie. I have read that the castle can be visited by appointment at certain times of the year and, from Port Appin, it is possible to take a shoreline walk, taking in the castle and surrounding views.

Rothesay Castle, Scotland A3 Art Poster (large image) by Raymond Murray. Rothesay Castle on the Isle of Bute, was built by the Stewarts in the 13th Century. From the castle although now a ruin, you have views across the River Clyde to the mainland and a chance to marvel at the huge curtain wall and moat, built as a defence against sea fairing invaders.

Broughty Castle – Open Edition Giclee Art Print by Rikki O’Neill. Broughty Castle, has commanding views across the Firth of Tay. Completed around 1495 by the Gray family. This historic building is now a museum run by Dundee City Council, and the structure cared for by Historic Scotland.
