Spring is here!

keli-clark-love-artt

March is almost April and I realise that we’ve not posted a single news item to the blog in 2018 yet – blimey! So, perhaps I should wish you all a Happy New Year – a tad late (I Know!).

Where have you been and what have you been doing?

We haven’t been anywhere except the Bay Attic office, honestly. It’s not all sunshine and holidays here (If Only).

David and I have been working away behind the scenes. We’re looking at introducing more framed work to the website and have found some lovely new products too. Then came the snow. Which meant that we could work away in the office but, not get anything shipped out (Arrgh!) Then the back-log of orders that were delayed due to the bad weather and the new ones to be shipped – a crazy week or two and here we are. Spring has sprung at it’s almost Easter. Whoosh!

What’s Popular at Bay Attic?

Since the beginning of the year, Matylda Konecka prints, Peter McDermott art and cards and Janet McCrorie and Peter McDermott mugs are as popular as ever.

Did You Know?

We now stock Peter McDermott and Janet McCrorie Small Mounted Art Prints and Magnets AND some lovely Spring inspired magnets and cards from Keli Clark are a must a t this time of year. They are great little gifts too.

And Finally

We wish you all a Happy Easter, enjoy the holiday weekend.

Janet McCrorie | Artist Spotlight

Janet McCrorie produces the most vibrant, colourful and energetic art. She captures the essence of Scottish Country Dance in her eye-catching work.

janet-photo-31“I live in East Lothian and my working life has revolved around teaching and creating arts and crafts. I have studied painting with the Open College of the Arts and at Leith School of Art and have had two excellent mentors in Jacqueline Watt and Damian Callan.

I paint Scottish dancers using mixed media, plotting out the familiar shapes by scraping and scratching vibrant colours across the painting, meeting the challenge of capturing the look of the tartan and the movement and exuberance of the dance.

I work from photographs, sketches and from life, attending Highland Dancing competitions, Scottish Country Dancing events and Ceilidhs all over Scotland. My aim is to make the viewer smile and to induce a sense of nostalgia while putting a modern twist on the spectacle of these ancient traditional dances.

My paintings have been used to illustrate the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society’s Annual Review for 2011.”

Ann Vastano | Artist Spotlight

ann-vastano-beautiful-greeting-cards

Ann Vastano lives and works in the Scottish Highlands.

“I have been constantly driven to recreate through art work those dramatic land forms which surround me. I am also particularly captivated by those character filled bothies and cottages which lie strewn across the highland park. Along with the fickle weather fronts we experience here in the north, these muses are a constant challenge and inspiration”.

Ann says, “Sketching outdoors allows me to immerse oneself completely in the mood and atmosphere of the subject, capturing my perception of its essence”.

For the past few years Ann has worked mainly in pastels and acrylic. However her new work has encompassed using both these mediums alongside paper collage, including – in some instances the use of the written word, which she feel adds another dimension to the composition, opening the work up to further interpretation.

At Bay Attic we love Stewart’s interpretation of the Cloch Lighthouse in Gourock – our old neck of the woods and his eye-catching view of Dundee at night.
