Satisfaction – 5 Minute Stories

“Short, strong, dark and sweet. Satisfaction that fills the early waking hours, or mixed with alcohol for the after hours.”

He unintentionally licked his lips, then as if to conjure the elixer before me, he raised his hands towards his face in a florish and wiggled his fingers in front of his widening smile.

“A pleasure”, he continued.

“Both, warm and comforting, yet bitter. Pungent. Aromatic.”, He paused, thoughtfully.

“Can you tell that from such a thing as a bean, this black gold that I yearn for, I thirst for – is more than just a morning ritual? My mouth cries out for such a taste. My eyes blearily search for the liquoris tones. My nostrils seek the aroma, the roasted vapours, they tingle my senses like my lovers kiss”. His voice more animated as he spoke, his eyes wide.

I could almost taste this magical sounding liquid.

Black as HellStrong as Death and as Sweet as Love

Satisfaction – 5 Minute Story Inspiration

The word for today’s five-minute story was “Satisfaction”. So, I thought I would take inspiration for this Turkish coffee proverb.

Spring is in the air

Evening9

Looking toward Greenock

Yesterday was a truly lovely day, so much so that as the working day finished and twilight beckoned, I decided to enjoy the remains of the day with a delightful coastal walk.

It may seem strange that working near the seashore you take your window vista with a pinch of salt (yep-it’s there every morning I wake too), but I was astounded by the beauty of the day.

Perhaps, as there wasn’t snow, wind or rain (no jacket required), it was milder than it has been in weeks, meant I didn’t want to miss out enjoying the day so, off I went with a spring in my step and Spring in the air!

As you can see, my route took me from sunshine to twilight, just look at the remarkable shades of colour and light.

Musslecrag

If you’re a fan of Sir Walter Scott novels or an Arbroath Smokie, then this art print – Auchmithies Last Stand by Douglas Roulston is right up your street! The cliff-top, former fishing village is on the East coast of Scotland, about three miles north east of Arbroath. The derelict harbour in this scene, was once home to many fishing boats in the 1800’s.

Auchmithie became famous for the origin of the Smokie – a gutterd Haddock sold in pairs and smoked in pits buried in the ground – the term is now protected by EU Law to say that if the Smokie is made out-with 8km of the Arbroath Town House, then it isn’t an Arbroath Smokie!
